Ilona Cole, Guest Author, Story 183

It was a precious day today.

Yes, it even happens to me, where my days mostly seem very uneventful. After I got up, had taken care of all my duties and was ready to allow myself a good cup of coffee, I opened my computer to check if I might have received a comment to my Valentines short story on Marcie’s website. To my surprise, my mood went from unbelievable, to happy to cloud nine!

I found a comment, not to my story, but a name and a text to me.

“ILONA!! I have finallly found you! I have tried to find you for a number of years, but always came to a dead end.”

Oh, what a miracle, what a gift! I have to see how I can contact that sweet little lady now. Her comment had no current phone and address included.

Many years ago Teri lived in one of Bellevue, Cougar Hills condo’s and so did I with my husband Hal. She was not just a neighbor, but also a Realtor  and when my Hal and I retired and wanted to move to Lake Chelan, she was willing to sell our condo for us and she did a great job for us. I had become, not just a neighbor with Teri, I also became friends with this lovely lady.

After six years we came back to Bellevue, but Teri had moved away and we lost touch. Life took over, life moved on. In the meantime my life had changed dramatically, I lost my beloved Hal to a devastating long illness and moved into a small apartment here in Kirkland. For me, there was so much sadness, feeling of loss and being disheartened, living now by myself.

An offer to write short stories, weekly, for my dearest friend and wonderful niece’s website Marcie gave me a new outlook on life. Writing short stories, I loved it and it gave Teri an opportunity to find me. A beautiful gift!

Today, is the day we will meet, Teri is coming here to my apartment to visit, only a 23 minute drive from home in Redmond, almost neighbors again.

When we parted, Teri had a little precious daughter, she is now 28 years old and recently gotten married. She is Mekena and I do hope to get to see her very soon too. I hope for a repeat of today, I was so very happy.

Delighted and ecstatic over this extraordinary chance, at my age, to reunite and see my little friend, Teri and her “baby daughter Mekena” again.

This does not always turn out that well. How lucky and fortunate am I.

And so very grateful!
