HALLOWEEN: Our First Day in our New Home

Today was the day of completion on our new house in Chelan. The builder did the clean up and gave my Hal the keys. It is also Halloween tonight. I had asked my neighbor lady how many children I could expect tonight and she told me, about 75. We made sure we had purchased enough candy, before returning home. After two hours of enjoying all the little ones, we ran out of candy. My husband, Hal and I gathered as many one dollar bills as we had between us to give to them, while Hal was rushing to the store to get more supplies.
We ended up with quite a few more little ones. We took delight and pleasure seeing them all getting out of the family car, all dressed up and hearing an adult voice telling them to be nice and not forget to say thank you, before they leave. After a few more hours the traffic of cars by our drive way slowed down and it got quiet. It was a busy and interesting first evening in our new home, but living in Condos, or gated communities for some years, we had missed all this.
I thought, we might have our dinner now, I had prepared with much care, to celebrate our retired life in our new home tonight. My Hal’s favorite filet mignon with the heavenly sauce my Hal loves, a beautiful green salad with sweet, ripe tomatoes, grated Emmenthaler cheese, cucumber dressing. and some very tasty French fries. All the little ones should now getting home. As I am thinking this, we could hear talking, singing and laughter. They did not sound like little ones, they were at least in their teens, or even a little older. The door bell sounded twice and laughter, and my Hal got up to get the door. From the kitchen I could hear singing, a group, not just one.
“When you hold my hand, I understand the magic that you do,
you’re my dream come true, my one and only you u u u!”
I wondered what they would have done, if I had opened the door.
I heard Hal saying: “nice treat! What do I give you, a glass of wine?”
They giggled and said no, candy please.
As Hal was closing the door, I heard him say, stay safe.
We turned down the outside lights and sat down for our celebration dinner in our new home, enjoyed it with that glass of wine. Toasting, happy Halloween!
