This is another beautifully written story from Ilona, with all the wonderful details I have come to expect, with a question at the end that puzzled me at first. I quickly realized that the soldiers were occupying Germany, and things could have been very different, but for the grace of the German people at the club. Ilona has a gift of giving glimpses into postwar life, the bittersweetness of a former riding club turned restaurant/nightclub, fine dining and watching soldiers jitterbug dancing, while gently reminding us of the reality of postwar occupation. Thank you Ilona and Marcie!
Yes, another beautiful story. Vividly told. Ilona’s writing brings the reader right into the heart of the story. You can hear the music. See the dancing. Smell the food. Taste the fine wine. Experience the layers of mood surrounding the experience. Tender and poignant. A toast to the resilience of the human spirit.
